Orchid Specialist Group SSC/IUCN
Orchid conservation's leading international network.  The OSG is one of more than 120 specialist groups making up the Species Survival Commision (SSC) of the IUCN - The World Conservation Union.

We have tried to include the more "significant" organisations in each country.  A good number of these, in turn, offer very comprehensive lists of links to orchid societies and other organisations in those countries.
Do bear in mind that few countries have national bodies like the BOC, and that many orchid societies do not have web sites.

European Orchid Council
The EOC web site provides contact details for its member Orchid Societies, including links to web sites, covering most countries across Europe.

Professional-looking web site.  Currently in Czech only, but with an English version planned.

Conservation-oriented Georgian (Caucasus, not US) organisation.  Their emblem is the oldest fossil orchid, Eoorchis miocaenica Mehl.  Web site fully bi-lingual in Georgian and English.

Les Orchidophiles du Sud
Otherwise the "Association des Amateurs d'Orchidées et Plantes de Collection Île de la Réunion" - the Réunion Amateur Orchid Association.  Réunion is one of the Mascarene Islands in the Indian Ocean, c.500 miles east of Madagascar.  The web site is in French only.

A searchable database of plant names, authors, publications and collectors for all seed plant species, including Orchids.

International Register of Orchid Hybrids
The Royal Horticultural Society - a BOC member - is the International Registrar of Orchid Hybrid Names.  This is their searchable database.

List of Natural and Hybrid Genera
A fully comprehensive and regularly updated list of genera, identifying Tribe and Sub-Tribe, and component genera for hybrids.  An invaluable judging tool at Shows when assigning a plant to its correct class.

Orchid Research Newsletter
Published twice a year by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and available on-line.

World Climate
A searchable database of historical weather averages (monthly and annual temperature, rainfall and barometric pressure) for over 85,000 locations world-wide.

Orchid Guide Digest
English-language Belgian-based successor to the Orchid List Digest.  Launched in 1999, this is a subscription-only (but free) information mailing list convering many aspects of the Orchid world.  Probably the largest such list on the Internet.

Linda's Orchid Page - "The Orchid Lady"
Aimed at the amateur orchid grower, this site has a mass of useful information, tips, etc., for both the beginner and the more experienced grower.  Also some valuable "non-amateur" reference material.  One of the best and most useful sites of its type on the Web.

Orchid Cancer Appeal
A registered UK charity dedicated to funding research into diagnosis, prevention and treatment of testicular, prostate and penile cancer.  Why is this Appeal so-called?  Have a look at our Home page.

Rio Atlantic Forest Trust
The charity Riotrust, or RAFT for short, supports the conservation of two privately-owned forest reserves in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro, fragments of the mere 4% remaining of original Atlantic Coastal Rain Forest.  RAFT's highly regarded in situ conservation work is only part-funded through ecotourism.
